Refuge Ministries

“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.”
-- Psalm 9:9

If you answered “yes” to two or more of the above questions, you may be in an abusive relationship.

Domestic abuse is a form of oppression. It occurs when a person controls and dominates their partner through a variety of behaviors, including intimidation, manipulation, and verbal assault. Violence is often involved, but a person does not have to be violent for a relationship to be abusive.

The Refuge

Refuge Ministries of North America is a ministry of Providence Presbyterian Church that helps survivors of domestic abuse find redemption from oppression. We come alongside survivors and offer them a number of resources, including a weekly support group. Regardless of whether you have little or no church background, or if you have been a Christian for some time, we encourage you to contact us at 717-767-4772 and ask to speak to Pastor Vince. All communication is confidential.

WOMEN

One in four women have experienced domestic abuse in their lifetime, and God calls his people to protect the oppressed. The Refuge combines mentoring and group support to help women understand abuse biblically, achieve safety, find healing in Christ, and learn how to establish new patterns. The Refuge meets weekly for as long as a survivor wants to attend, and works through The Refuge Workbook, written by Pastor Shane Waldron, in such a way that a woman can join at any time.

MEN

There are many male survivors who are also in need of support. Understanding abuse biblically, finding healing in Christ, and learning how to establish new patterns is covered for men as well.
