Help Wanted!

For the past three years, Providence has had a booth at the Women’s Show at the York Expo to promote our annual retreat for women who are victims of abuse. This year, the show is on October 7th & 8th, and we need volunteers to take 2-hour shifts at the booth to hand out goodies to attendees and promote this year’s Voices retreat (November 3-4). A fact sheet will be provided to help you answer questions. Please see Delilah Rumburg or call the church office if you’re willing to help.

You are invited to come celebrate what the Lord is doing in the hearts of men and women at the York Country Prison. The Good News Jail & Prison Ministry’s annual banquet will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 6:30 PM at Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York, PA 17408. Tickets are $10/person, and must be ordered by October 1st. See the poster on the bulletin board in the narthex for details.

Mark your calendars for the Fall Yard Sale - October 21st.
If you are interested in helping this fall with the yard sale, please sign up at the event table in the foyer. Thank you.
Yard sale week is a huge connection. It starts small in homes of individuals when they clean out a few boxes and bring them to the church on the Sunday before the yard sale. By the end of the week on “sale day” those individual donations amount to a church packed with some very interesting items ready for shoppers. It is an event the entire church can be part of… from praying for the week, giving gently used articles, being hands-on during the week or donating food items to be sold.
The indoor yard sale started in 2008 as the Spring Yard Sale to benefit Youth Missions, but in more recent years we have added the Fall Yard Sale as well. Proceeds now will be going to Missions in general at PPC.  God has blessed us thoroughly, not only financially but through all the connections that take place during the week. Our prices are rock bottom and lives are touched through acts of kindness from our congregation to the shopping public. There have been times to talk about our faith and to answer questions of those who want to know what PPC is all about. Our shoppers go home with a flyer listing upcoming church activities, and also hear a verbal invitation to “come join us sometime.” Those shoppers are welcomed as early as 6 a.m. on sale day, and in the warmth of the church, they can purchase a cup of coffee and a baked item to enjoy while they shop. A little later on, hotdogs are ready for purchase as well…with all the toppings!
Are you interested in helping with the sale? If so, please visit the event table and sign up. How can you help? We’d love your donations of clothing, household items, furniture and toys, and will accept them starting October 15th. We also need donations of bake sale goodies as well as food items needed for the hot dog sales. Finally, if you are available the week prior to the sale and enjoy unboxing items and pricing them, or just placing them for display, there is a sign up for this help as well.  Thank you to the congregation for the years of help and support.

The next Young-at-Hearts (age 55+) luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20th.  We will be serving baked potatoes with all the trimmings, chili, salad and cole slaw, as well as a variety of desserts. Please invite a friend and don't forget to sign up so we know how many will attend.  Looking forward to seeing you!

Women's Ministry

The Women's Bible Study has started and will meet weekly on Thursdays from 9:15-11:00 AM. If you’d like to join us, please contact Shannon Hawk.  We’ll be going through Lysa TerKeurst’s book, What Happens When Women Walk in Faith

Ladies—Do you enjoy fellowship while working on a craft project?  A group of women meet weekly on Tuesdays from 1-3 here at the church, and they welcome newcomers.  Just bring that half-finished sweater or the scrapbook you’ve wanted to complete for years and join in the comradery.

Ladies Prayer Partner Ministry  Ladies — We have prayer partner ministry.  If you would like to participate, complete a registration form which can be found on the back table, and drop it in the Women’s Ministry box. See Margaret Ramage or Denise Denning with questions.

The Women's Ministry Team meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM here at the church building. Any woman who attends Providence is welcome to attend these meetings. As a woman you are inherently a part of the women's ministry, therefore we welcome your input and suggestions. Please contact Denise Denning for more information.

Ways to Connect and Grow

DivorceCare will meet weekly at Providence from September 12th to December 5th on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30. If you know of someone who would benefit from being part of this group, talk to Leona Heasley.
