Music speaks to our soul in a unique way. Imagine a dramatic moment in
a movie without music. Music adds punch to the moment. In the same way,
music in worship takes the Word of God deep into our hearts. Sure, you
can worship without singing and sing without worshipping, but God has
commanded and invited us to “sing to Him joyfully…to sing to Him a new
song” (Psalm 33). “It is fitting for the upright to praise Him.”
The Church has a long-standing tradition of singing together to worship
God. In this way, we participate together, singing the songs of the
Redeemed (those whom God has purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ).
We sing a lot of different types of songs, ancient, modern, hymns,
contemporary. Some you may know and others you won’t. You may like some
styles and not like others. But worship is about singing together,
setting aside our personal preferences and worshipping God with each
other.
Though at first singing with a big group of people may seem awkward,
you will quickly get the hang of it. We invite you to sing out, even if
you don’t have a great voice. Meditate on the words. Believe them.
Rejoice with confidence before your Creator, that by faith in Jesus you
are fully accepted and loved.
