Our church has been blessed through our relationship with First Presbyterian church and one of their Pastors, Patrick Bukenya. We have sent two couples to Uganda and have hosted the Bukenyas here. We are impressed with the way our Ugandan brethren are maximizing their opportunities for the gospel and bearing rich fruit in the Kingdom.
The Ugandan government has mandated that First Presbyterian Church replace their roof because it is in danger of collapsing. The roofs of two Ugandan churches have already collapsed, resulting in deaths and injuries. In May, we sent a member of our church to Kampala to examine the roof. He is a project manager for an architecture firm and is committed to working with others from the PCA to design and engineer the roof renovation. Although those working on the designs have not yet completed the budget for the new roof, they agree that the cost will probably be around $50,000. Scripture is clear about the responsibility of those who have material resources to share with those who do not. Providing the money for the roof renovation will support our Ugandan brethren as they plant churches and show mercy (including evangelizing Muslims, planting churches among the unreached people on the islands of Lake Victoria and caring for widows and orphans).
The missions team of Providence Presbyterian Church would like to serve as the hub to coordinate efforts for the fiscal and physical completion of this project. By working together, we can avoid duplication of effort and be wise stewards of our God-given resources. We would like to bless the Presbyterian Church of Uganda by uniting with other PCA churches to fund the roof renovation.
We are appealing to you, because of the mercies of Christ, to be one of those churches. Our church kicked off our fund-raising effort through a series of fund-raising dinners. We explained the need to people, showed PowerPoint presentations (which we could send you) and fed our guests royally. We enjoyed rich fellowship and great food, while raising over $5,000.
